I have recently made the design change to an Arched/Braceless Back. I have laminated my backs for a long time and it made sense to me to eliminate the back braces by utilizing the arched back. In the photo to the left you can see the positive and negative parts of the mould. I have built two guitars with this back design and the results have been excellent. Both of the guitars have a better clarity to their voice across all six strings. The sound seems to jump out of the guitar better also. My suspicion is that the sound waves can reflect off of the back of the guitar without being interrupted by the back braces that are no longer there. I look forward to building more guitars in the future with this design.
We moved to a new house this summer and I'm in the process of setting up my new shop. Once I have things up and running I will post some pictures. I have a much larger space and a dedicated finishing room. I still have a lot of work to do but I hope to have things ready to go by the end of September. Stay tuned!
